Feldkirch Austria

Feldkirch is a city in the federal state of Vorarlberg, in Austria. This was founded in 1190 and borders Switzerland and Liechtenstein. River III runs through the city before flowing into the River Rhine. The city was built in the Middle Ages in a valley almost completely surrounded by forests and rocky cliffs. Its strategic location near the Arlberg Pass, made it a heavily fortified city in the Middle Ages. Some of its points of interest are its old town. This ensemble of the city has been inscribed on the list of Cultural Assets since 2015, and the city has one of the best preserved medieval landscapes in Vorarlberg. It has a perfect geometric grid system, and thanks to the construction of the wall around 1500, this city has remained unchanged throughout the centuries. Then in the fortified city we can find the Chur Gate, which was built as part of the old wall in 1491 and is located at the exit of the Montfortgasse towards the Hirschgraben. Inside the Hirschgraben is the Karzenturm tower, also known as the "thick tower"; the Powder Tower and the Water Tower. If we talk about castles and palaces, here we have to highlight two, the Castle of Shadows and the Palais Liechtenstein. You cannot miss either of the two. As for cultural events, we find the Saumarkt Theater, the Poolbar festival (this offers concerts, short films, poetry recitals, competitions, fashion performances, debates, etc. during the months of July and August), the Blosengelmarkt ( Christmas market), the jugglers festival and the Vinobile Feldkirch (where more than 100 winegrowers perform).
