Tulsa is the second US state of Oklahoma largest city , and the number 46 of the United States. With a population of 391,906 inhabitants , What today is known as Tulsa was part of Indian territory which was created as part of the relocation of the Five Civilized Tribes , Choctaw , Cherokee , Creek ( muskogui ) , Chickasaw and Seminole . These tribes moved into the region after the adoption of the "Indian Removal Act " of 1830 when they were forced to surrender their lands east of the Mississippi River by the federal government, in exchange for land in Indian Territory .
